Delhi to begin unlocking from Monday, factories, construction sites will reopen

After a stringent lockdown of 6 weeks, Delhi government is planning to begin the unlocking process from Monday. Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday said there will be gradual unlocking in the Capital as the Covid-19 situation is coming under control. Restrictions on industrial areas, factories and construction sites will be removed slowly and the government is not planning to unlock all activities initially as there has to be a balance between containment and the resumption of economic activities.

According to media reports, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal said, “The number of Covid-19 cases in Delhi is steadily coming down and the credit goes to the 2 crore people of Delhi that the second wave of the pandemic has been brought under control in a month. In the last 24 hours, around 1,100 new cases have been recorded and the positivity rate has come down to 1.5 per cent. Beds, including ICU beds, oxygen beds are also available in the city now.”

Addressing a webcast, kejriwal urged people not to go out unless it is very urgent. He said that every week, new relaxations will be given provided the number of cases remains low. The chief minister emphasised that the government has to take care of the lowest strata first. This strata includes daily wage workers, migrant workers and factory workers.

“Every week, based on suggestions from citizens and expert opinion, we will keep opening up progressively. If the rate of infection increases again, we will put the unlocking on hold. So everyone must maintain caution,” Mr Kejriwal said.
